Planting and Care Tips

Plant

  • Choose a location with well-drained soil.
  • Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root flare.
  • Place the tree so the root flare is slightly above ground level.
  • Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly, and apply 2–3 inches of mulch (keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk).

Feed

Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early Spring

Water

  • Water deeply at planting.
  • Provide weekly watering during the first 2 years to establish roots (about 10–15 gallons each time).
  • Once established, Autumn Blaze tolerates some drought, but regular watering during dry spells helps maintain strong growth and vibrant fall color.

Prune

  • Best time: late winter or early spring while dormant.
  • Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches.
  • Establish a strong central leader early to prevent weak crotches, as maples can be prone to splitting.

Exposure

Full sun
