Planting and Care Tips
Plant
- Choose a location with well-drained soil.
- Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper than the root flare.
- Place the tree so the root flare is slightly above ground level.
- Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly, and apply 2–3 inches of mulch (keeping mulch a few inches away from the trunk).
Feed
Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early Spring
Water
- Water deeply at planting.
- Provide weekly watering during the first 2 years to establish roots (about 10–15 gallons each time).
- Once established, Autumn Blaze tolerates some drought, but regular watering during dry spells helps maintain strong growth and vibrant fall color.
Prune
- Best time: late winter or early spring while dormant.
- Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches.
- Establish a strong central leader early to prevent weak crotches, as maples can be prone to splitting.
Exposure
