Planting and Care Tips
Plant
Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper, set the plant level with the ground, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly. Add 2–3 inches of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk.
Feed
Apply a general-purpose fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins. Avoid overfeeding.
Water
Water deeply when soil is dry, especially during first growing season. Once established, needs less frequent water but still benefits from moisture during drought.
Prune
Late winter/early spring is best. Remove dead or crossing branches. For size control, selectively prune taller branches. Avoid heavy “topping”.
Exposure
Full sun
