Lagerstroemia 'PIILAG-VII' PP27,303
This new crapemyrtle has distinctly different, carnation-like, glowing red flowers that show beautifully against the lustrous dark green foliage. Foliage turns orange-red in fall. The habit is upright, but compact, with dense branching. Like the others in the Magic series, Ruffled Red™ reblooms in late summer if the first flush of flowers is deadheaded. It is also resistant to Cercospora leaf spot and powdery mildew, which is quite a breeding accomplishment in red crapes.

Planting and Care Tips
Plant
Plant Ruffled Red Magic™ Crape Myrtle in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper, set the plant level with the ground, backfill with native soil, and water thoroughly. Add a 2–3 inch layer of mulch, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk.
Feed
Balanced fertilizer in spring will help; avoid over-fertilizing so you get more blooms and not just foliage.
Water
Moderate water when establishing; once established it’s relatively drought tolerant.
Prune
Late winter/early spring is best. Remove dead or crossing branches. For size control, selectively prune taller branches. Avoid heavy “topping”.
Exposure
Full sun
