Planting and Care Tips
Plant
To plant a 'Maki',dig a hole three times the width of the root ball in well-draining soil, but only as deep as the root ball. Gently loosen any tight roots, place the plant so the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil, and backfill with native soil amended with compost or peat moss.Water thoroughly after planting and apply a 3-4 inch layer of mulch, keeping it away from the base of the plant.
Feed
Provide enriched, slightly acidic, well-drained soil. Feed in early spring before new growth emerges.
Water
Water when top 2 inches of soil is dry. Water deeply and regularly during the first few growing seasons to establish an extensive root system. Once established, reduce frequency; prefers regular water but tolerates some drought.
Prune
Prune annually to shape.
Exposure
Full sun, Partial sun
