Planting and Care Tips

Plant

To plant a Royal Star Magnolia, select a location with well-drained, slightly acidic soil and good air circulation. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper, place the tree level with the ground, and backfill with a mix of native soil and compost.

Feed

Feed in early spring with a slow-release fertilizer for acid-loving plants to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Water

Water regularly, especially during the first few years, keeping the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Once established, provide supplemental watering during dry spells.

Prune

Prune only after flowering to remove dead, crossing, or damaged branches, as heavy pruning can reduce the next year’s blooms.

Exposure

Full sun; partial shade
